CyanogenMod 11 (CM11) Custom ROM for Samsung Galaxy V Plus SM-G318HZ Download + Install

Want to install the infamous CyanogenMod 11 (CM11) custom ROM for your Samsung Galaxy V Plus SM-G318HZ? You're on the right page, I'll show you step-by-step to install the custom ROM on our Android phone.

KituTech — Installing a custom ROM, is the way to completely change our Android phone's system totally. Also for our Samsung Galaxy V Plus SM-G318HZ Android phone, installing a custom ROM open up many possibilities.

From using newer Android version that's not provided by our device's manufacturer, fresh experience, freeing yourself from manufacturer and Google's bloatware, and more. Thanks to Android project's nature as open source, we have vast choices of custom ROMs available made by bunch of developers, including our not-so-popular Samsung Galaxy V Plus SM-G318HZ Android phone.

And talking about Android customizations, who doesn't know CyanogenMod ROM? CyanogenMod 11, or simply known as CM11, is a celebrated custom ROM project when it was released. What a good old day on my early Android modding days, really.

CyanogenMod 11 is an Android KitKat 4.4.4 custom ROM that stick to Android's original user interface, while being extended with more features and customizations. In my opinion, CM11 is the right stock ROM that has best performance for my Samsung Galaxy V Plus Android phone because its running same Android version with the stock ROM (minus the bloatware, of course 😁).

Steps installing CyanogenMod 11 (CM11) custom ROM on Samsung Galaxy V Plus SM-G318HZ

Tools, requirements, and materials:

  • Backup!
  • If we are using a stock ROM on our Samsung Galaxy V Plus SM-G318HZ Android phone, make sure to downgrade it to older version first to prevent issues like bootloop. Also read: Downgrading Samsung Galaxy V Plus SM-G318HZ Firmware
  • Custom recovery installed (TWRP recommended). Also read: Installing TWRP Custom Recovery on Samsung Galaxy V Plus SM-G318HZ without PC.
  • The CyanogenMod 11 (CM11) for Samsung Galaxy V Plus SM-G318HZ ROM zip file (download link at the end of this post).
  • (Optional) Google Apps (GAPPS) package from Open GAPPS (or through direct link I provided at the end of this post), if we want to have Google services like its synchronizations and Play Store. Pico GAPPS is recommended as it's lightweight.

Installing the ROM (example on TWRP recovery):

  1. Download the CyanogenMod 11 (CM11) ROM zip file and save it on our Samsung Galaxy V Plus Android phone.
  2. Boot our Samsung Galaxy V Plus into recovery mode: Power off the phone, then press volume up + home + power buttons simultaneously and hold it for a few seconds until the phone vibrates.
  3. On custom recovery main menu, go to Wipe menu and wipes:

    • Dalvik / ART Cache
    • Data
    • System
    • Cache
  4. (Optional) Repairing system partition. Back to Wipe menu again, tick the "System", then tap "Repair or Change File System" → Repair File System. Most of the time based on my experience, this is not needed, but can help if we experienced bootloop after installed a ROM.
  5. Back to custom recovery main menu, now choose Install menu, locate where we saved the CyanogenMod 11 ROM zip file and select it. Wait until the installation is done.
  6. (Optional) Installing GAPPS. Still on the Install menu on the custom recovery, now install the Google Apps (GAPPS) zip file if we want to have Google's services and Play Store on our Samsung Galaxy V Plus Android phone.
  7. Done! Reboot our Samsung Galaxy V Plus SM-G318HZ Android phone to boot into our newly installed CyanogenMod 11 (CM11) ROM.

Known bugs

There is only one known bug to me when I tried the CyanogenMod 11 ROM on my Samsung Galaxy V Plus SM-G318HZ, that is Bluetooth gamepad not recognized buttons correctly.

But, I already found the fix how to make Bluetooth gamepad work correctly again on my Samsung Galaxy V Plus on this CM11. I took the Bluetooth files from LoliNovaFIUI KitKat custom ROM and it's surprisingly solved the gamepad Bluetooth bug.

Fixing Bluetooth gamepad bug:

  1. Download this zip system files and extract it:
    system.zip (38 kB)
  2. After the system.zip file I provided has been extracted, you will see two folders, etc and usr.
  3. Copy and paste the etc and usr folders into /system directory on our Samsung Galaxy V Plus Android phone. For example, we can use a file manager app that has root explorer capability like MiXplorer to easily do this. Or, we can also do this using file manager feature in custom recovery like TWRP.
  4. Reboot our Samsung Galaxy V Plus Android phone.
